This
is a short (short) fiction project, with each piece of fiction
following two rules:
1)
It's exactly 250 words long.
2)
It's based on Wikipedia's Featured
Article, which changes daily.
The
fiction pieces aren't intended to be connected in any way, and
don't necessarily go right along with the article; some days,
I might use the article title to simply jump start something
in my head, and some days I might use more of the article's
content.
In
some cases, the title of the piece will be the same as the Featured
Article. In others, I might change the title to better fit the
piece. In all cases, I'll provide a link somewhere in the piece
to the Featured Article.
I'm
just writing these when I have time. I guess an auxiliary rule
might be:
3)
On days when I specifically look to see what the Featured Article
is, I'll write 250 words to go with it.
My
goal is to force myself to write fiction based on a key word,
phrase, or idea; to look at the Featured Article and decide
the topic isn't interesting, or to claim writer's block, sort
of defeats the purpose. But I don't want this to be something
I have to do, either. So when I have time, I'll do it,
and when I don't have time, I won't. |
